I was hoping for a pleasant day for the start of the Macy’s warehouse sale, and God answered my prayers in abundance. It started off bright and sunny. As I walked from my car to the block of lots Macy’s had converted into their sales area, I was greeted by the security guard trafficking cars into the nearly congested Minlon Industrial Park. Judging from his mood, I could gauge that he was in high spirits, meaning that he isn’t yet stressed out by the number of cars inching bumper to bumper, hoping to get a parking spot close to the sale galore. After wishing him well, I could hear the deejay cheering the energetic bargain hunters, so I walked quickly towards the sale. After all, a few seconds could make a lot of difference between getting that great bargain or letting someone else haul the loot!
Stepping foot at the sale, I stood mesmerized at the scene and took it all in. I felt like a kid in a candy store! Colorful banners with the words “SALE” and “DISCOUNT” practically shouted at me, and a bevy of Macy’s salespeople clad in red were busy processing sales from the lucky few who had arrived earlier than me.
And the sale stood true to its claim, as being a sale not to be missed. Everything was going at unbelievable prices. I passed the first few halls and went straight to the Furniture hall. It was the fastest transaction I had ever made in my whole life. I purchased a sofa bed for RM399, mattress for RM570, throw pillows for RM20 each, bar stools for RM175 each and a variety of table lamps and stand lamps, each within RM50 – RM110 each! In any other sale, it would have been ten times more expensive than this! I even saved on delivery costs, as I was one of the first 50 who RSVPed for the event through Facebook, qualifying me for a free delivery!
Unfortunately, I missed out on a pair of fine-looking solid wood bookcases, which were snapped up by a lucky patron for only RM145 each. I looked wistfully, as the Macy packers started wrapping up the beauties – thinking that I should arrive earlier for next year’s sale!
Out of all the halls, the Home Accessories hall was the most jam-packed. At lunch, they even had to cordon off the area to reduce the number of people scrambling to get those oh-so-cheap curtains, vases and adorable trinkets for the house. I didn’t want to miss out, so I dived in, and managed to grab a few beautiful odd sized curtains. Even though they were odd sized – the fabric and the stitching quality made it all worth it. And they were going for only RM45 a pair! At the far end of the hall, they were selling glass vases at 70% off, so I purchased a modern looking slanted vase for only RM27. Funny that the artificial orchids were actually more expensive than the vase – three stalks for RM50!
In the afternoon, at the Sofa hall, the sofa auction kicked off. I had earlier purchased a sofa bed, and wasn’t planning on purchasing any more. Like any other avid shoppers, I wanted to witness the event. However, when they introduced a stunning deep red maroon 2-seater sofa, auctioned off from its original price of RM2300 to RM500, my sudden reflex at the shock of the sale, made my hand shoot up! After a bit of a bid war with some of the other sporting patrons, the sofa was finally made mine. I ran my hand over the velvet structure of the sofa, admiring my purchase. Suddenly, I realized in a start, that unconsciously I was grinning from ear to ear!
2 hours shy from the closing time it started raining cats and dogs. God must have concluded that enough was enough - all of us have single-handedly revived the Malaysian economy! But rain did not deter the ardent shoppers (including myself) from buying. Thankfully, I had just made my third trip to the car to transfer my loot. This fourth round, I was targeting for some bed sheets and pillows, to go with my new mattress. Who would even expect that those comfy bed pillows would be sold at as low as RM23 a piece? I paid for my purchase and lugged 8 pieces of those pillows back to the car. My gym trainer would be so proud of me. I am weight training without even being told to do so!
I even started shopping for my son’s first birthday (though he only turned 7 months the day before). I grabbed more than 10 packs of colourful Happy Birthday printed paper plates, going for a ridiculous price of RM3 each. And lots of Happy Birthday balloons. Macy’s just made my baby’s day!
Half an hour before the close of the great Macy’s sale, the last of the shoppers gradually started to head for home. Despite their light wallets, most of them had a car-full of purchases to show for. I walked towards my car, satisfied with my bargains. By then, nearly half of the Macy’s staff knew me by name and bade me goodbye.
I am now hooked. I am forever a Macy’s fan. |

| Due to the mass of people flocking to the sale not to be missed, a fellow friend had to stand guard by the pair of bar stools while I stand in line to pay. If not, these beauties would surely be snapped up by someone else! |

Here are my thoughts on the Macy Warehouse clearance sale. I was there
with my wife on the first day arriving about 10.30 am. It’s situated
quite out of the way, but nevertheless worth the trip! Parking is next
to impossible to find, but you can always find a place to park if you’re
determined enough to wait! I had to drive around the area 3 times before
I decided to offered a lift to a lady with 2 big bags to her car about
300m away. That was indeed a great idea. Ha-ha.
It was already crowded in a few halls especially the one where the
curtains were. This hall was our first target as we have a list of items
that we had planned to buy. The bargains price was fantastic. We bought
4 sets of curtains and would have bought more if we had not being give
the wrong info by two of the helpers who said that the price on the
label is nett price but were actually price before discounts. I blame
myself for not checking with the cashier. Well next sales I will not be
so ignorance. Lesson learned.
Most of the items are nicely and orderly laid out and you can find them
in specific locations and I love that as we do not have to waste time
going hunting.
I was glad that there was a food stall set up at the sales as we need
not have to go out for our lunch when we were very hungry after the
sales at about 3.30pm.
Unlike other warehouse sales that sells most items with slight defects
like /‘scratched, bruised or missing parts’, /but to be honest the ones
at Macy’s the defects are quite minimal…and the discount more than makes
up for a small scuff in the corner of the product. Actually most items
are new stuff. Thanks Macy.
Yes, if you were wondering, what we walked out with….. this is my list
of items: 4 sets of curtains, 1 King size King coil mattress, 4 pillows
+ 4 bolsters, 4 sets bed sheets, 1 bed protector, 8 dining chairs, 1
cupboard @ Rm100 only during happy hour (good marketing idea – I bought
it without realizing where to put it in my home) 2 vases, a bunch of
artificial flowers and candles for Christmas and a lot more other items.
My damage inflicted on my credit card was LESS than RM2200 for the
entire lot! (at retail prices, this would have cost me RM8000). What a
saving……… Thank God I brought my MPV to carry the small items as the big
items will be delivered to my home at reasonable cost.
Conclusion: you would *NOT* imagine it – most items at Macy’s clearance
were on sale at unimaginably cheap prices! (until now, I’m still in
shock!) I was lucky enough to catch them on the first day.
Just a note, I hope Macy would provide more cashiers in the hot items
halls, as I had to queue for 45 minutes before I could pay for some on
my items. I would have more items if the queues were shorter. Anyway
this sale is the best we have attended. I will definitely be at the next
Macy clearance sale. Macy Boleh! Keep it up! |

Comment on my First, Second and Third Visit to MACY clearance Sales
I love, I mean l-o-v-e, Macy’s yearly clearance sales. According to a flyer I got in my mailbox, the day from Thursday through Sunday you can get an additional up to 90% off clearance-priced merchandise at Macy’s. That will make most things at least 20 to 50% off original price. If you don’t know, Macy’s marks clearance items lines cut across the original price, but the final markdown before an item is taken off the floor was some with a no tags because everyone was excited and some of the customers unintentional had pulled out the tags and for example the price of quality curtains slashed to $30.00 each piece or set. The ‘lelong’, furniture is very fantastic. It was just like ‘TAUKE MATI’ grand sale. I really did not know what to describe about the furniture auction. A furniture priced around $1,200.00 clearance sale was slashed to about $600.00. Three small tables was sold for $60.00 during the 20 minutes happy hours. What a fantastic price Hopefully there will be some broken tagged items this Sunday so that the price cut can come down to 90% (for this comment was written on Sunday. The staff were running like mad on the first day of the sale. The cashiers were shouting for bar codes which were detached from the things that they bought. The first day was really making money for Macy. Congratulation for the superb grand clearance sale! Alas I am already broke to send you a bouquet of flowers because I have spent more than $3000.00 dollars
I know some of us might be thinking about clothing. Surprisingly, I saw an array of two rows of clothing as I walk along the corridor. I never expected such things are sold at Macy. Even the TVs were I think the latest model because I could not find the specifications in the brochures provided . Take a minute and think about what was placed in the last store. It is something provided for everyone, Christmas candles, flowers, etc. If a customer could not buy the $8000.00 leather sofa or the $5000.00 LG,s TV she can always can go to the last store.for small things. I aim to buy a gift for my sister’s birthday ahead of time at 80% off, so this is just my kind of sale! I am sure she taught that the price was expensive but actually it was 70% off .
The new temporary staff looks innocent and friendly I congratulate your loud spoken lady who make important announcement every minute in three languages. Her Malay is better than mine. Even the man in the microphone is friendly. The rest are really very helpful.
But how can you help to settle the commotion during the first day of the sale next year. You also had forgotten to tell us the time when the ‘balloting’the winner for the drawlot.
Next year , of course, I wanted to save more money to buy a lot of things to replace what I already have in my house. |

| Incredible Qualilty @ Incredibly Cheap Price!
Macy Annual Warehouse Clearance is the bomb! Being an avid fan of Macy products, I made sure not to miss out on what could be an experience I will never regret. I started going to their sales last year and did not regret a bit. I was not aware of their previous years’ sales though. I sure missed many years of good discounts and bargains! For this year’s sales I went on the first two days and last day. I got there at 9.30am on all three days simply to avoid the large crowd, shop in peace and most importantly to get the closest parking to the entrance because I already know for sure that I will have to travel back and forth to my car to keep the items that I have purchased.
The selections were more than plentiful and they were all great quality including the as-is items on display. My first bought item was the Whitfield night stand table which was on display in the open space. I fell in love with it the moment I set my eyes on its beautiful classic design. I’ve always been searching for a nice classic English side table and having found what I wanted was indeed a dream come true. For the price of only RM69 (70% off) it was a total steal! It was the only unit available and still in perfect condition. Next I bought two table lamps which cost only RM14 per piece. I left early on the first day because I couldn’t stand the heat and the huge crowd. Furthermore I am already 8 months pregnant with my third child. I decided to come again the next day.
On day two I purchased a teak single seat priced at RM95 (which now I regretted for not buying two instead), 2 sets of curtains, some pillow cushions, table runners and kitchen towels. On the last day of the clearance sale I bought more curtains. Since I was one of the early birds I managed to grab hold of the limited sliding door curtains left on sale.
The layout of the sale was very organized and I got good deals. I'm pretty satisfied with the inventory, the professionalism of the staff, and the overall organization of the event. The staff was more than helpful and also warm and friendly. What more could you want? I will definitely go to their next year’s sales again. Even now I’m already looking forward to it! I’m giving this happening event 5 stars! |

It Cannot Been Explained In 1000 words (“,),
Macy annual sale comes again…..huaHuaHUaaHUa (evil laugh),everybody will be crazy like last year of course, since I got the SMS from Macy team about the clearance, I kept thinking what should I told my boss to leave early on Thursday,,(hehehe) but on the fine and very marvelous going-to-be day, getting excited on the warehouse sale turned the left-early plan to not-to-go-to-work, my 54 days-old son needed a mother’s intensive care on that day (hihihi) .The journey began, we went to the annual clearance at 3 p.m, still full of shopaholics, luckily we got a parking space near the entrance and this year the traffic was much more organized then the previous year even though it was the same crowd. With my little baby in the baby’s sling, we quickly ambushed the furniture side to grab RM179 -3 doors wardrobe (n.p RM599), WAAaaaaa L we were too late unfortunately. Then the frustrated slowly eased away seeing there were many more to grab. Most of the item were so cheap and unbeatable price, Raleigh coffee table set from RM99 last year was marked down to RM80 (n.p RM199), 2-seater & a teak wood coffee table set, down RM40 from last year’s price RM399, some Felton dustbins worth RM5.++ only. We bought a table lamp for only RM30+, some nice looking luxurious & exotic candle less then RM30, flower candle holders about RM20, gardening stuff and also stainless steel kitchen utensil/RM2, it was so cheap and I must give credit to the Bean cushion worth RM39 (n.p RM79), it was so comfortable and light and of course I buy four of them! This year I had to hold myself before I am out of control, there is no more space left in our house because the previous year Macy’s clearance items were still not being used. Last year I almost spend 3k, so I have to be patient until we move the new house. Macy’s annual clearance should be marked in everyone’s calendar and it is a must-go event to my family even If we move out from KL because it is simply worth my money and time! |
